Privacy policy
Here’s what happens to your information when you visit this site, subscribe to my newsletter, or get in touch.
Who’s responsible
I’m Daniel Abudu, the person responsible for how information is used on danielabudu.com. For privacy questions or requests, email hello@danielabudu.com.
The newsletter
When you subscribe, I collect your email address and, if you provide it, your first name. I use these to send the newsletter and manage your subscription through Kit. Kit also processes subscription and email engagement information, which can include delivery, opens, and link clicks depending on email settings and your email software.
Subscribing is optional. Sending the newsletter is based on your consent, which you can withdraw using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter. Unsubscribing stops future newsletter emails; it does not necessarily erase the subscriber record. Email me if you would like that record deleted.
Website analytics
I use Umami Cloud to understand how people find and use the site. Analytics include pages visited, referring sites, campaign tags such as Instagram bio links, browser and device information, approximate location, and visit times.
I also measure newsletter signup requests accepted by Kit, submission errors, and clicks on previous articles on the newsletter page. These events include the page path and, where relevant, an article title or a generic error category. The events do not include your name, email address, form contents, or the text of submission errors. An accepted signup request does not tell me whether you confirmed your email subscription.
Umami’s tracker does not use cookies. It processes technical request information, including IP address and browser information, to derive location and session statistics. I do not use heatmaps or session recordings. The purpose of these statistics is to improve the site and understand newsletter performance; where applicable, I rely on my legitimate interest in doing so.
Project enquiries and email
If you contact me, I use the information you provide to respond and discuss your project. The project form collects your name and email address, plus any business name, requested services, and project details you choose to share. Submissions are processed through Google Apps Script, stored in a Google Sheet, and sent in an email notification. See Google’s privacy policy.
I use this information to respond to your request and, where relevant, take steps towards a contract. Contacting me about a project does not subscribe you to the newsletter. Please avoid sending sensitive information through the form.
Hosting and service providers
The site is hosted by Netlify. Hosting and email providers may process technical logs, such as IP addresses and request details, to deliver and secure their services. The site’s fonts are served from this site.
Kit, Umami, Google, and hosting or email providers process information to provide the services described here. These providers may process information outside your country, including outside Nigeria, under their applicable data protection terms. Their linked privacy notices explain their own practices. If you follow a link to another website, that website’s privacy notice applies.
How long information is kept
Newsletter information is kept to manage your subscription and unsubscribe preferences. Enquiries and correspondence are kept for as long as needed to respond, manage a resulting working relationship, and meet applicable legal or recordkeeping obligations. Analytics and technical logs are subject to the providers’ retention settings and terms. You can ask me about retention or request deletion at the email address above; some records may need to be retained to meet legal obligations or respect an unsubscribe request.
Your choices and rights
Depending on the law that applies to you, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; object to or restrict its use; request a portable copy; or withdraw consent. Email hello@danielabudu.com to make a request. I may need to verify your identity before responding. Analytics are not linked to your email address, so I may be unable to identify a particular visit as yours.
You can also complain to your local data protection authority, including the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. If this notice changes, I’ll update the date at the top of this page.
